Texas Sheet Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

Cake

  • 1 c. butter, (2 sticks)

  • 1 c. water

  • 2 c. All-Purpose flour

  • 2 c. sugar

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 1/2 c. sour cream

  • 1 tsp. almond extract, (or vanilla extract)

  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Frosting

  • 1/2 c. butter, (1 stick)

  • 1/4 c. milk

  • 4 1/2 c. powdered sugar

  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract, (or vanilla extract)


Let's Get Started!

Cake

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 14 x 10 sheet pan.

2. In a medium saucepan, bring butter and water to a boil. In a large bowl, combine flour, and sugar. Whisk in eggs, sour cream, almond extract (or vanilla) and baking soda. Slowly pour in the boiling water/butter mixture. Stir until smooth

3. Pour mixture into a greased sheet pan. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 20-22 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cake cool for 20 minutes. Make the frosting.

Frosting

1. In a medium bowl, add powdered sugar, set aside.

2. Use a medium sized saucepan, add 1/2 cup butter, almond extract and 1/4 cup milk. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and pour into bowl of powdered sugar/almond extract.

3.  Stir mixture until smooth and combined (add a little extra milk if frosting is too thick). Spread over warm cake
