Cooking Tips & Tricks

  • Let It Cool: Allow the jam to cool slightly before serving; the flavors intensify as it thickens.

Bacon Jam Recipe

Prep: 10 mins. Cook: 20 mins. Makes: 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. bacon, one package

  • 1 small onion, finely diced

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1/3 c. maple syrup

  • ¼ c. brown sugar

  • 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar

  • 1/2 tsp. Cajun seasoning

Let's Get Started!

1. Place bacon in a nonstick skillet. Cook on a medium heat for 7-10 minutes or until bacon starts to crisp up. Use a slotted spoon to remove it and place it on a paper towel to drain. Remove all but 1 Tbsp of bacon grease from the pan.

2. Using the same skillet, add onions to the bacon grease. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until translucent.

3. Add in bacon, maple syrup, brown sugar, garlic, apple cider vinegar, and remaining seasonings to the skillet. Mix well to combine and simmer over a medium to low heat for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The mixture should begin to reduce and thicken (add more water if it is too thick or add a little more brown sugar/maple syrup if it too loose).

4. Set mixture aside and allow it to cool, it will thicken as it cools down. This bacon jam is so good on almost anything. It can be used on your burgers, hotdogs and most sandwiches.

Store in a mason jar or a plastic container with a lid and refrigerate. It will stay fresh for up to 5 days--if it lasts that long without being eaten!

Jazz It Up!

  • Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce for some heat

  • Citrus Twist: Add a splash of orange juice or zest for a bright, tangy note.

  • Smoky Depth: Use smoked paprika to intensify the smoky flavor
